Young And The Restless Gloria Wants Jack To Stay Away From Dina

Young And The Restless Gloria Wants Jack To Stay Away From Dina

Oh, Genoa City. It’s a place where the coffee is always brewing and the drama is always simmering. And right now, the biggest pot of tea is being poured by none other than Gloria Abbott. Bless her heart, she’s got her eye on Jack Abbott, and she’s decided that Dina Mergeron is… well, she’s just not on the guest list for Jack’s life right now. Not in Gloria’s opinion, anyway.

Now, I’m going to put it out there. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m kinda with Gloria on this one. Hear me out! It’s not that I don’t appreciate a good family dynamic. I do! But sometimes, even the most well-meaning family members can be… a bit much. Especially when they’re dealing with something as delicate as a parent’s memory. And let’s be honest, Dina has had her moments, hasn’t she?

Picture this: Jack, the perpetually stressed but lovable businessman, trying to navigate his life. He’s got his own dramas, his own battles. He’s trying to run Jabot, trying to keep his family together, trying to remember where he put his keys. And then, enter Dina. Lovely old Dina. Who, bless her, has a mind that’s about as predictable as a tornado in a teacup. One minute she’s remembering your birthday, the next she’s convinced you’re a spy from a rival cosmetic company. It’s a lot, people.

And Gloria? She sees it. She sees Jack getting pulled in every direction. She sees the worry lines on his forehead deepen every time Dina has one of her… episodes. And Gloria, with her own brand of bossy affection, has decided that Jack needs a break. He needs a sanctuary. He needs a place where he’s not constantly walking on eggshells, trying to decipher what’s real and what’s a figment of Dina’s ever-shifting reality.

So, when Gloria tells Jack to steer clear of Dina’s latest bout of… well, whatever Dina is going through this week, it’s not coming from a place of malice. I don’t think so, anyway. It’s coming from a place of, “Honey, you’re drowning. Let me throw you a life preserver that doesn’t involve deciphering ancient prophecies whispered in the pantry.”

Think about it. Jack is a good son. He’s trying his best. He’s visiting, he’s talking, he’s holding her hand. But is it truly helping Dina? Or is it just adding another layer of stress to Jack’s already overflowing plate? Sometimes, the best way to help someone is to give them space. And sometimes, the best way to help someone is to give yourself space from them, especially when they’re not… fully present.

Gloria, with her flamboyant personality and her often-misguided but always-passionate attempts at control, is actually showing a surprisingly sensible side here. She’s not trying to cut Dina out of the family forever. She’s just saying, “For now, Jack, you need to breathe. You need to step back from the ledge of this particular drama.” It’s like a mom telling her kid, “Honey, maybe don’t try to wrestle a badger. Let’s just… observe the badger from a safe distance.”

And let’s be honest, dealing with Alzheimer’s or dementia is incredibly tough. It’s a roller coaster of emotions for everyone involved. For the person experiencing it, and for their loved ones who are watching them change. Dina’s journey is a hard one, and Jack is right there in the thick of it. But Gloria, she’s like the loud, slightly off-key cheerleader on the sidelines. She’s not always saying the right thing, but her intention is to get Jack to stop tripping over his own feet.

So, while the world might be tut-tutting and saying, “Oh, Gloria, you’re so meddlesome!” I’m over here in my imaginary armchair, nodding along. Sometimes, a little tough love, even if it comes wrapped in a leopard-print scarf and a dramatic sigh, is exactly what someone needs. Jack needs to be able to process Dina’s condition without feeling like he has to be her sole emotional support system for every single second of every single day.

Maybe Gloria’s idea is a little blunt. Maybe it’s a tad over the top. But isn’t there a grain of truth in it? Sometimes, you need to create a little distance to gain perspective. To protect yourself. To allow the person you’re caring about to also have their own space to breathe. Gloria wants Jack to be okay. And in her own uniquely Gloria way, she’s trying to make that happen. So, Gloria, you do you. We’re kinda cheering you on.
