Whatever Happened To The Original Cast Of Gossip Girl

Remember those days? You'd grab your latest issue of Teen Vogue (or, let's be honest, just refresh a fan page), settle onto the couch with a bowl of popcorn that was probably too buttery, and dive headfirst into the scandalous, silk-draped lives of Manhattan's elite? Yep, we're talking about Gossip Girl, the show that practically defined our adolescent angst and fashion aspirations. It feels like yesterday, doesn't it? But then you blink, and suddenly it's been over a decade, and you start wondering… whatever happened to the people who brought Blair, Serena, Chuck, Nate, and Dan to life? Did they all get swept away in a limo to a penthouse party and never be seen again? Let's dish!
The Queen Bee Herself: Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen)
Ah, Serena. The effortlessly chic, perpetually dazzling Serena van der Woodsen. Blake Lively played her with such a perfect blend of vulnerability and glamour, it’s hard to imagine anyone else. So, where is our blonde bombshell now? Well, she’s basically been living her best life, and honestly, we’re all a little jealous. After Gossip Girl wrapped, Blake didn’t just disappear. Oh no, she went on to become a bona fide movie star!
She's starred in films like The Town (where she met her now-husband, Ryan Reynolds – talk about a meet-cute!), Green Lantern (let's not dwell on that one too much, shall we?), The Age of Adaline, and the super intense survival thriller The Shallows. My personal favorite? Probably A Simple Favor. She was so good, so mysterious, and her wardrobe? Chef’s kiss! She's also a proud mom to three adorable daughters, and her Instagram is basically a masterclass in effortless cool and adorable family moments. She’s basically living the Upper East Side dream, but with way more genuine happiness and way less backstabbing. Plus, she’s got that whole business mogul thing going on with her lifestyle brand, PERFECT. Seriously, is there anything Blake Lively can’t do?

The Reigning Queen: Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf)
And then there’s Blair Waldorf. The headband-wearing, Constance Billard-obsessed, perfectly imperfect queen bee. Leighton Meester brought us Blair’s ambition, her insecurities, and her surprisingly tender heart. What’s Leighton been up to? Well, she's also been busy making her mark, just in a slightly different way than Blake. She’s a talented singer and has released music, proving she’s more than just a pretty face and a sharp tongue. She also took on some interesting film roles, often opting for more indie projects.
But where she’s really found her groove is on television. Many of us were thrilled to see her shine in the sitcom Single Parents. It was a fantastic showcase for her comedic timing and her ability to play characters with a lot of heart. And more recently? She’s reunited with another Gossip Girl alum (more on that later!) in the critically acclaimed series The Flight Attendant. Leighton’s got that sophisticated vibe, and she’s managed to maintain it while carving out a career that feels authentic to her. She’s also a mom, and from what we can gather, she's embracing a more private, down-to-earth life, which is totally understandable after living in the glare of the Gossip Girl spotlight.

The Bad Boy with a Heart of… Well, Maybe Gold?: Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass)
Chuck Bass. The embodiment of scandal, charm, and questionable life choices. Ed Westwick played him with such magnetic energy that even when he was being his absolute worst, you couldn't help but be a little captivated. So, what’s happened to our favorite villain/anti-hero? Ed has continued to act, taking on a variety of roles in both film and television. He's had stints in shows like Wicked City and Snatch (the TV series, not the movie!).
He's also maintained a strong presence on social media, often engaging with fans and sharing glimpses of his life. And, let’s be honest, the hair? Still on point. He’s got that roguish charm down pat. While he hasn't quite had another role as iconic as Chuck Bass (can anyone?), he's been steadily working and evolving as an actor. He’s definitely still got that smolder, and who knows what the future holds for this British heartthrob. Maybe a comeback tour of exclusive clubs and dramatic monologues? We can only hope!
The Golden Boy: Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey)
Oh, Dan Humphrey. Our lonely boy from Brooklyn, who secretly, shockingly, turned out to be… Gossip Girl! Penn Badgley’s portrayal of Dan was so earnest and relatable (initially, at least!), it made the eventual reveal even more mind-blowing. After the show ended, Penn took a bit of a break from the mainstream spotlight, which, frankly, was a good move. He wanted to explore different kinds of acting and avoid being typecast.

And then… BAM! He landed the role of Joe Goldberg in Netflix’s You. And guys, he is terrifyingly good. He completely shed the awkward charm of Dan and became this incredibly unsettling, yet undeniably captivating, stalker. It's a testament to his range that he can go from the boy next door to the man you definitely do not want living next door. He’s also a devoted husband and father, and he’s become a vocal advocate for various social causes. He’s proven that he’s not afraid to challenge himself and explore complex characters. So, while we might not be rushing to his apartment with a bouquet of roses anytime soon, we're definitely still glued to his performances.
The Best Friend (and Future Wife): Jessica Szohr (Vanessa Abrams)
Vanessa. The aspiring filmmaker, the voice of reason (sometimes!), and Dan’s sometimes-girlfriend. Jessica Szohr brought Vanessa’s often-frustrated energy to life. After Gossip Girl, Jessica continued to act, appearing in a variety of TV shows and films. She had a recurring role on the very popular series Thefollowing (which, ironically, had a similar vibe to Gossip Girl in terms of teen drama and secrets). She’s also been in shows like Kingdom and The Gifted.
Jessica has a really cool, down-to-earth vibe, and she’s often seen enjoying life, traveling, and spending time with friends. She’s also become a proud mom, sharing adorable updates on social media. It's nice to see her thriving and taking on different kinds of roles. She might not have been the ultimate fashion icon of the group, but she was a vital part of the Gossip Girl universe, and it’s great to see her continuing to build her career and her life.

The Loyal Sidekick (and Basketball Star): Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald)
Nate Archibald. The seemingly perfect golden boy who was often caught in the crossfire of other people's drama. Chace Crawford brought Nate’s inherent goodness and his sometimes-clueless nature to the screen. After Gossip Girl, Chace continued to work in television, appearing in shows like Glee (yes, he made a cameo!) and the miniseries Blood & Oil. He also ventured into some film projects.
But where he’s really found his stride lately is in the superhero genre! He’s starring as The Deep in the wildly popular and darkly hilarious Amazon Prime series, The Boys. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out. It's completely different from Nate, but Chace is fantastic as the deeply flawed, often ridiculous, but surprisingly sympathetic superhero. He's shown incredible range and a great sense of humor. Plus, he still has that classic Hollywood handsome look about him. He’s proof that you can go from chasing skirts on the Upper East Side to… well, chasing mermaids (sort of) in a satirical superhero world. Go figure!
The Fierce Friend and Victim: Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina Sparks)
Georgina Sparks. The ultimate villainess. The woman who could make Blair Waldorf sweat. Michelle Trachtenberg was absolutely brilliant as the chaotic force of nature that was Georgina. After terrorizing the Upper East Side, Michelle continued to work on a variety of projects. She had a significant role in the series Weeds, playing an unexpected character. She also appeared in shows like Criminal Minds and NCIS: Los Angeles.

She’s also been involved in producing and has lent her voice to animated projects. Michelle has a distinctive look and a powerful on-screen presence, making her memorable in any role she takes on. While Georgina might have been pure evil, Michelle herself seems to have a much more positive outlook. It’s great to see her exploring different facets of her acting career and showing us that there’s more to her than just scheming and devious plans.
And So It Goes…
Looking back at the original cast of Gossip Girl, it’s pretty amazing to see how far everyone has come. They were all so young and talented when they stepped into those iconic roles, and they’ve all gone on to build diverse and successful careers. From movie stars and acclaimed TV actors to musicians and even superhero ensembles, each of them has found their own unique path.
It’s a reminder that while the characters they played might be forever etched in our pop culture memories (especially Blair and Serena’s dramatic entrances!), the actors themselves are individuals with their own dreams, ambitions, and lives. And that’s pretty darn cool. So, next time you’re feeling a little nostalgic for the days of "I'm X, and I'm calling you out," take a moment to appreciate the talent that brought it all to life. They’re out there, doing their thing, and honestly? They’re all pretty inspiring. XOXO, and cheers to their continued success!
