Thor Love And Thunder Should Ve Been A Mini Series

Thor Love And Thunder Should Ve Been A Mini Series

Okay, so you know how sometimes you watch a movie and think, "Wow, this is so much story packed into just a couple of hours?" That's kind of how I felt after watching Thor: Love and Thunder. It was a wild ride, full of lightning, screaming goats, and a whole lot of heart. But, and this is a big but, it felt like we were cramming a really, really good novel into a single comic book issue.

Imagine this: we've got Thor, our favorite thunder god, dealing with some serious post-breakup blues. Then, BAM! He has to save the universe from Gorr the God Butcher, who's on a mission to… well, butcher all the gods. It's a pretty big job, even for a supervillain.

And then there's Jane Foster, who shows up as The Mighty Thor! This is such a cool moment. She's got Mjolnir, Thor's hammer, and she's strong and brave and totally rocking the superhero look. Her journey is so important and touching.

We also get a whole crew of gods from different realms, all with their own quirky personalities. Some are majestic, some are hilariously out of touch, and some are just… there. It’s like a cosmic family reunion, but with world-ending stakes.

And the screaming goats! Oh, those goats. They are a recurring bit of pure, unadulterated chaos that honestly made me laugh out loud every single time. They are both terrifying and ridiculous, a perfect summary of the movie's tone.

Think about how much backstory there is for each of these characters. Gorr’s whole motivation is so tragic and understandable, even if his methods are… extreme. You get glimpses of his pain, and it makes you think, "What if we had more time to really feel that?"

And Jane’s story is incredibly powerful. She’s dealing with something very real and very difficult, and seeing her step into the role of Thor is inspiring. A mini-series would have given her the space to explore that struggle and triumph in a way that felt truly earned and deeply resonant.

We’re also introduced to Love, Gorr’s daughter, and her relationship with him is a key part of the story. The idea of a child who is loved, even by a villain, is such a fascinating concept. It adds layers of complexity and emotional depth.

But with all these amazing elements – the action, the humor, the romance, the tragedy – it feels like they're all vying for attention in a limited time. It’s like trying to eat a five-course meal in five minutes. You get a taste of everything, but you can’t really savor it.

A mini-series would have allowed each of these storylines to breathe. We could have spent more time in Gorr’s past, really understanding his descent into villainy. We could have seen more of Jane’s journey with Mjolnir, her physical and emotional transformation.

Imagine a few episodes dedicated to Gorr’s childhood and his disillusionment with the gods. We’d have time to truly empathize with his pain, making his actions, while still horrific, more understandable from a character perspective. It’s the kind of deep dive that a good series excels at.

Then there could be an entire arc dedicated to Jane’s discovery of her illness and her struggle to wield Mjolnir. We could witness her training, her doubts, and her growing confidence. This would make her eventual heroism even more impactful and emotional.

And what about the other gods? We get quick cameos from the likes of Zeus and the pantheon of Elysium. A mini-series could have given us an episode or two exploring their decadent lifestyles and their apathy towards the universe’s plight. It would have made their eventual comeuppance all the more satisfying.

The dynamic between Thor and his reunited love, Jane, is so sweet and also so heartbreaking given her circumstances. We see moments of their old spark, but the weight of her illness is always present. A longer format would have allowed their conversations and their quiet moments to unfold naturally, making their connection feel even more genuine and profound.

Think about the cosmic adventures! Thor and his gang traveling to different planets, facing bizarre creatures, and encountering ancient prophecies. These are the kinds of epic journeys that a series can really flesh out, with cliffhangers and character development happening over multiple episodes.

The introduction of Love, Gorr’s daughter, is particularly intriguing. Her presence as a powerful, almost childlike entity battling alongside her father presents a fascinating moral dilemma. A mini-series could have explored their complex relationship in much greater detail, delving into the nature of her powers and her perspective on Gorr's crusade.

The film touches on themes of faith, belief, and the nature of divinity. These are huge ideas! A mini-series could have dedicated entire episodes to exploring these concepts through the eyes of different characters and cultures across the cosmos.

Ultimately, Thor: Love and Thunder felt like a fantastic pilot episode for an even more incredible story. It had all the ingredients for something truly special, but the constraints of a feature film meant some of those ingredients were only tasted, not fully savored.

So while I loved the crazy humor and the surprisingly emotional moments, a part of me wishes we could have spent more time with these characters. A mini-series would have been the perfect way to give this epic tale the time and space it deserved. It would have been a chance to really get lost in the universe, to connect deeply with the characters, and to experience all the love and thunder in its full, glorious glory.

It’s like getting a really delicious appetizer and then being told dessert is on another planet. You want more, you need more, and you wish you had a whole buffet waiting for you!
