“So you… you believe in that?” Miller asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Heavy looked him straight in the eye. “I believe in a fair shake, Miller. I believe in standing up for your buddies. I believe in making sure the guy next to you isn’t drowning. If that makes me a communist, then maybe being a communist isn’t so bad after all.”

Miller sat down on the cot, feeling a strange mix of shock and… understanding. He looked at Heavy, this man he’d always seen as a pillar of strength, and saw him in a new light.
