An Event Horizon Remake Is Reportedly Being Developed
So, I heard a little rumor. A tiny whisper in the cosmic winds. Apparently, someone is thinking about remaking Event Horizon. Yes, that movie. The one that gave us nightmares.
Now, before you grab your pitchforks and storm the digital gates, hear me out. This is just me, musing. Having a little fun with the thought. Because let's be honest, Event Horizon is… a lot.
It’s the kind of movie that sticks with you. Like that one song you can’t get out of your head. Except, instead of catchy lyrics, you’re haunted by spooky visions. And maybe a bit of blood.
Must Read
The Original's Glorious Chaos
The original Event Horizon, bless its dark little heart, was pure, unadulterated chaos. It was a space horror movie that didn’t hold back. Not one bit.
It had that spaceship, the Event Horizon, which sounds fancy. But really, it was a giant metal deathtrap. That went to a place no one wants to go. And brought something back. Something… nasty.
And the acting! Oh, the acting. Laurence Fishburne, looking all stoic and heroic. Sam Neill, delivering that classic mad scientist vibe. They really committed to the bit.
Then there were the other folks. The crew. You know, the ones who were probably thinking, "This is definitely not in the job description." Poor souls.
The movie threw everything at you. Gore. Jump scares. Existential dread. It was a buffet of terror. And some of us, weirdly, loved it.

My "Unpopular" Opinion
Here’s where I might lose some of you. I actually, kind of, enjoyed the original. Flaws and all. It was like a wonderfully terrible car crash. You couldn’t look away.
It had its moments of brilliance. Like that scene with the eyes. You know the one. It’s etched into my brain forever. Thanks, Event Horizon. Really.
But it was also… messy. The plot had more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese. The pacing was all over the place. Sometimes it felt like it was trying too hard.
And that ending. Let’s just say it left a lot to the imagination. Which, for some, is a good thing. For others, maybe not so much.
So, when I heard about a remake, my first thought wasn’t, "Oh, finally!" It was more of a, "Uh oh." A big, ol' "Uh oh."
What a Remake Could Be (And What I Hope It Isn't)
Now, I’m not saying a remake is a bad idea. Not at all. Maybe a new team could take the core concept. And polish it up. Make it shine. Like a spooky, haunted spaceship.

Imagine it. A bigger budget. Better special effects. Maybe they could actually explain what the heck was going on. That would be something.
They could delve deeper into the horror. Make it more psychological. Less about gratuitous gore. Though, a little gore never hurt anyone. (Okay, that's not true, but you get the idea.)
I’m picturing sleek new ship designs. More unsettling visions. Perhaps a soundtrack that’ll make your teeth rattle.
But here’s the thing. What if they get it wrong? What if they smooth out all the rough edges? The things that made the original so… memorable.
What if they make it too clean? Too polished? Too… safe? That’s my fear. That they’ll lose that gritty, raw feeling.

I don’t want a generic sci-fi thriller. I want the terrifying, weird, almost operatic nightmare. That’s what Event Horizon was.
I don’t want them to explain away the mystery. The unknown is scarier. That’s just a fact.
And please, for the love of all that is spooky, don’t make it a PG-13 flick. That would be sacrilege. This movie needs its R-rating. It earns it.
The Power of the "Bad"
There's a certain charm to movies that aren't perfect. They have character. They have a story behind them. Event Horizon is one of those.
It’s a cult classic. A midnight movie gem. Something you watch with friends. And then spend the next week jumping at shadows.
A remake could be great. It really could. But it has a big, scary shadow to step out of. The shadow of the original.

I just hope they remember what made Event Horizon, well, Event Horizon. It wasn’t just the scares. It was the sheer audacity of it all.
So, yes, a remake is reportedly in the works. And I’m cautiously optimistic. And also, a little terrified. Which, I guess, is the perfect mood for anything related to Event Horizon.
Let’s just hope this remake doesn’t end up in the same dimension as the original ship. That would be a real shame. And probably very, very messy.
Maybe they'll bring back the "execute her" line. That was a good one. Or maybe not.
Whatever happens, I’ll be watching. Probably with the lights on. And maybe a blanket. Just in case.
After all, who doesn't love a good space scare? Especially when it's a remake of a movie that already mastered the art of making us scream.
Here’s to hoping they get it right. Or at least, memorably wrong.
